The Journey to Healing:
Shelby's descent into darkness led him on an unexpected journey of self-discovery and holistic wellness. Initially seeking a quick fix through medication, Shelby soon realized that true healing required a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between physical and mental health. He immersed himself in the study of nutrition, fitness, breathwork, mindfulness, and community engagement, challenging societal norms and exploring unconventional perspectives.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to reclaim his well-being, Shelby signed up for Nicolette’s Nutrition+Detox Coaching Certification program, where he earned his certification in whole-food nutrition and reversing chronic illness. Through dedicated study and practice, he uncovered the profound impact of clean, real food on mental health and overall wellness. This newfound wisdom became the cornerstone of his healing journey.
Transformation Through Nutrition:
Central to Shelby's healing narrative is his adoption of a plant-based, whole-food diet. By breaking free from sugar addiction and embracing nutrient-dense foods, Shelby experienced a remarkable turnaround in his mental health. His triumphant story serves as a testament to the transformative power of food as medicine and underscores the importance of self-discipline and daily habits in achieving optimal mind-body well-being.
Founding Azhen Sanctuary:
Today, alongside his brother Jamie, Shelby has established Azhen Sanctuary, a 160-acre off-grid Indigenous-owned sanctuary dedicated to living in harmony with nature. Inspired by their own Indigenous heritage and the challenges they faced due to mercury poisoning, the Friesen brothers seek to create a modern lifestyle rooted in Indigenous teachings and regenerative practices. Azhen Sanctuary encompasses a diverse range of initiatives, including permaculture farming, holistic land management, regenerative agriculture, wellness retreats, educational programs, and unique Airbnb accommodations.
